When this lovely mum-to-be contacted me, she had a vision for these otherworldly underwater maternity photos…even though she didn’t know how to swim! All the way from Melbourne, she flew to my underwater studio in Noosa, determined to create some magic. Her one big request? In every single photo she wanted her head completely underwater—which is trickier than it looks when you don’t know how to swim!
I assured her we’d go slowly, at her pace, as my shoots don’t have a time limit. Though nervous at first, with encouragement and guidance she learned to relax and enjoy the sensation of weightlessness in the water. Bit by bit, her confidence blossomed underwater. I gave her plenty of guidance on how to immerse her head briefly while keeping her expression serene—just a few seconds each time to get those ethereal portraits she dreamed of displaying in her home. She adapted beautifully to the underwater environment and flourished. Her vision, her terms.
