Fine-art vision with commercial purpose.

Each production is tailored to your brief and brand story, delivering editor-ready visuals that elevate lookbooks, campaigns, and PR while preserving creative integrity.

Award-winning underwater photography specialist. Featured in BDP, Mama Disrupt, Plongeurs, and In Noosa magazines. Available for brand campaigns and editorial commissions.

Elegant, emotive and distinctly cinematic.

I create fine art imagery for fashion and beauty brands seeking otherworldly, aspirational storytelling.

Every shoot is crafted with precision, artistry and a deep understanding of how movement, light and fabric translate underwater. The result is a collection of aspirational, print-quality images that hold both strength and softness.

Perfect for campaigns, editorials and lookbooks that call for something strikingly refined.

Liz is professional, understanding and creative in her work. The brand photos are nothing short of stunning. Somehow Liz got inside of my head and read what I was after. On top of that, she added her own substantial expertise to create the portfolio of images.

Liz Harlin APP M.Photog

Liz Harlin underwater photographer, Noosa, Queensland

What began as a love of the ocean evolved into a lifelong study of movement, light and storytelling beneath the water’s surface. My work combines technical precision with a calm, intuitive approach that helps people feel at ease in an unfamiliar environment.

Credentials: Master Photographer with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP)

Recognition: 51 awards and titles for printed and digital work at national and international levels

Experience: More than two decades of dedicated underwater photography exerience, and regarded as one of the world’s leading underwater portrait specialists

Expertise: Qualified freediver, divemaster and scuba instructor, with a deep understanding of breath, buoyancy and body awareness underwater

On-Site Features

Location: Shoots take place in my private heated pool studio in Noosa, QLD, from November through April. It’s a memorable destination for brand and editorial campaigns.

Pool studio: 11m long and 4.5m wide, with depths from 0.4m to 2.4m, allowing freedom of movement and creative flexibility. A covered veranda overlooks the pool, providing a shaded area to keep wardrobe items, accessories and equipment organised; it also offers an ideal vantage point for creating BTS content. The indoor area overlooking the pool has large north-facing windows, high stools for models, and a spacious island bench for makeup artists to set up and work.

Water quality: Filtered to exceptional clarity for sharper images, perfectly balanced pH to protect eyes, hair and fabrics, and heated to 34°C so long sessions remain comfortable with no goosebumps to spoil the skin.

Lighting: I usually work with ambient light, though I also have underwater strobes for additional creative options. A pool-sized scrim can be set up when wind conditions allow, softening light beautifully when the brief calls for it.

Privacy: High fences and surrounding native trees create a private, serene setting ideal for focus and creative flow.

Studio amenities: My home-based studio includes a private dressing room with luxe ensuite amenities for preparation and post-shoot care.

Together, these elements provide a controlled, high-end environment that allows for results both technically flawless and creatively bold.

Team Collaboration

The home studio comfortably accommodates visiting professionals and behind-the-scenes production, allowing the process to feel collaborative, efficient and creatively open.

I welcome stylists, art directors and brand teams, and I understand the pace and precision required for editorial and commercial work. If your team doesn’t include a makeup artist, I can arrange one of my trusted local professionals who also assists poolside during shoots.

Direction

Most of my underwater photography work involves everyday people rather than professional models, and guiding them underwater takes a calm, intuitive approach. I help people with breath work, buoyancy and body awareness so their movement and expression feel natural and effortless. Even experienced models find underwater work far more challenging than it looks, and this is where direction and trust make all the difference.

Process

Each collaboration begins with concept development, mood boards and production planning. I listen carefully to understand the creative vision and offer guidance on what works best underwater, from how fabrics move to how lighting behaves below the surface.

Water is like another player in the shoot, adding its own unpredictable rhythm to every movement. I know this medium well and how to work with it to achieve beautiful, consistent results. The most compelling images come when we bring a clear creative vision yet stay open to the subtle surprises water creates.

I see every project as a shared creative challenge. My role is to translate the team’s vision into imagery that feels alive, shaped by both thoughtful planning and the natural spontaneity of the water.

Underwater studio based in Noosa. Designer, stylist, and magazine collaborations welcome.
